Chairs That Call My Name

My fascination with chairs goes back as far as I can remember.  Chairs can be traced back through classical times to the time of Pharaohs and were reserved for Kings, Lords and Bishops.  Ordinary folk sat on backless benches or stools.  I enjoy taking a sad well worn chair and decorating it with reckless abandonment.  Painting them with my sense of whimsy holding it only temporarily then off on another journey to continue the cycle of love.

Time to Reflect

It seems I rushed around for weeks getting ready for my Gallery Show at Gallery Saratoga.  My third show and it still stirred the same kind of excitement in me as though my first.  Reminded me of my childhood when I brought my first drawing home with a star on it. Seeing my mom's eyes light up with joy was a feeling to cherish... and whenever a moment happens that comes close to that feeling, I cherish it completely.  Although exhausted, I have taken  "Time to Reflect"  and recharge my creative energy. But most of all, strangers bought my work which compels me to capture life's moments in everything that I do.

My Quiet Garden

A morning walk around my garden inspired this painting.  Early morning and all was quiet.  Overcome by the simply beauty of watching things stand still produced this image.

In Motion

It's a new year and I don't have a long list of resolutions.  I am taking advice from some of my elder relatives who are no longer with me.  "Always be ready, so you don't have to get ready".  I sort of brought that forward and added, "Always be prepared, so you don't have to get prepared".

At any rate there is something about motion, which immediately puts me in the mood to write (commute train conditioning).  So here I am the first week of this New Year already in motion.

Being grateful is where I am.  Of course, the obvious ones, health family and friendships but even more.  It's those little things that I appreciate and am grateful for.  That I still look forward to each day, my man's happy whistling in the morning, long distance phone calls with my brother reliving our childhood and some cases reinventing the events.  Walking along the San Clemente Pier watching the Sunrise.  Morning walks down the beach listening to the ocean bringing secrets from far away.  Being creative while surrounded with paints brushes and my head bogged in the mire of images.  I am so grateful that my garden has survived the cold and rain.  I'm grateful for the wide-awake joy in my heart and soul and the  thought that I shared some annonymously to someone who appreciated it even more.  Quiet moments where I refuel.  Good neighbors who smile and wave.  French movies with subtitles.  My list goes on and on and I am grateful each day that I can add to my list labled Grateful!
